Last Updated August 2024 – for the most up to date information we recommend visiting the PHARMAC Methylphenidate ER tablets (Concerta and Teva): Supply issue page
Pharmac has announced that there is a New Zealand-wide shortage of extended-release (ER) methylphenidate.Â
Pharmac has stated that they expect ongoing gaps in supply of both the Concerta and Teva brands of ER methylphenidate. These supply issues are expected to continue through to potentially the middle of 2025.Â
Â
At times, both brands may be unavailable, and some people will not be able to access either.
The 27mg and 54mg strengths of both Teva and Concerta ER methylphenidate are expected to go out of stock some time from the end of August to mid-to-late September.
Â
The 18mg and 36mg strengths of both brands of ER methylphenidate are exoected to go out of stock for a one-to-two-week period from mid to late October.
Patients who are currently taking an extended-release brand of methylphenidate that is not available will need to talk to their doctor. Your doctor will talk to you about your options and whether you should be prescribed a different brand of methylphenidate. There are other brands of methylphenidate available, including long-acting, sustained-release, and immediate release options. Â
We recommend visiting the Pharmac website for the most current information.
