More About Tea Tree:
Tea tree is the common name for Melaleuca alternifolia, a species of tree native to the Land Down Under that’s deeply woven into the indigenous Aboriginal culture and the history of Australia. In fact, during World War II, Australian soldiers were issued a bottle of tea tree essential oil as part of their standard first aid kit. Tea tree oil aromatherapy is a great way to enjoy the benefits of this natural oil.
Pure Tea Tree has a variety of uses:
- Breathe deeply – Add tea tree oil to a diffuser to help you breathe easier or use with steam inhalation to help clear the air for easy breathing. Simply add a few drops of tea tree oil to a bowl of steaming-hot water, cover your head with a towel or other thick cloth, and breathe normally for several minutes.
- Maintain good hygiene – Putting a drop of tea tree oil on your toothbrush can help keep it fresh longer. You can also put a drop or two on your dish sponge to maintain freshness.
- Surface cleaning – Combine one drop of tea tree oil per cup of water in a spray bottle to help clean bathroom and kitchen surfaces.
- Freshen up your clothing – A drop or two of tea tree oil added during a laundry wash cycle will have your clothes smelling remarkably fresh without leaving any actual tea tree aroma. It will also help to keep your washing machine clean.
You may have noticed none of these uses are internal, and for good reason. Tea tree oil is not for internal use, and can be toxic if ingested.
