Description

Rosuvastatin Viatris 5mg contains the active ingredient rosuvastatin, which belongs to a group of medicines called statins. Statins work by reducing the production of ‘bad’ cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein or LDL) in the liver and increasing the levels of ‘good’ cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein or HDL) in the blood. Lowering high cholesterol levels helps prevent heart attacks, strokes, and the need for heart-related surgeries.

Storage Instructions:

Store Rosuvastatin Viatris tablets at room temperature, below 30°C. Keep the medication in its original packaging, away from moisture and heat, and out of reach of children.

FAQ: Rosuvasatin

Rosuvastatin is a cholesterol-lowering medicine that belongs to a group of drugs called statins. It helps reduce levels of "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and raise "good" cholesterol (HDL) in the blood.

Rosuvastatin is used to:

  • Lower high cholesterol levels
  • Reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke
  • Treat certain inherited cholesterol conditions (such as familial hypercholesterolemia)
It’s often prescribed alongside lifestyle changes like a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Too much “bad” cholesterol can block the blood vessels that supply your heart and brain with blood. These blockages can result in strokes, heart attacks and angina. Rosuvastatin works by blocking an enzyme in the liver that’s involved in making cholesterol. This helps reduce “bad” cholesterol levels in the blood, improving heart and blood vessel health.

Once you start to take rosuvastatin, it may take 2 to 4 weeks to see a noticeable change in your cholesterol levels on a blood test. For best results, it's important to take it regularly as prescribed.

It’s best to limit alcohol while taking rosuvastatin, as both alcohol and statins can affect your liver. Heavy drinking can increase your risk of side effects. Talk to your doctor if you drink regularly.

No. Cholesterol levels can rise again if you stop taking it. To reduce your cholesterol effectively, you must keep taking rosuvastatin every day. Always follow your doctor’s instructions and never stop a statin without medical advice.
