Last Updated May 2024 – for the most up to date information we recommend visiting Pregabalin: Your brand is changing to Lyrica | Pharmac Website
If you’ve been taking pregabalin to treat nerve pain, epilepsy, or anxiety you may notice a change to the packaging and capsules next time you collect your prescription. Pharmac has announced that from July 2025 Pregabalin Pfizer (pregabalin) will begin a brand change/transition to Lyrica® (pregabalin) in New Zealand.
From July 2025 the supply of Pregabalin Pfizer 25mg, 75mg, 150mg, and 300mg capsules will begin to be depleted. Once depleted, supply will transition to Lyrica 25mg, 75mg, 150mg, and 300mg capsules.
Lyrica has the same active and inactive ingredients in the same quantities as Pregabalin Pfizer. It works in your body the same way.
Medsafe has reviewed the changes and found that the Lyrica brand meets standards New Zealand standards of safety, quality, and effectiveness. Data sheet for Lyrica – Medsafe Website [PDF]
Capsule: The capsule size and colour will remain the same. The only difference is the removal of the word ‘Pfizer’ printed in black. See below.
Box Printing: The box printing will look similar, however there are differences in both branding, colours and layout. See below.
Pharmac has created a flier covering the change: Pregabalin Brand Change – Pharmac Website [PDF]
